When it was introduced in 1990, the 375 HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 stunned the press and public alike. With its multitude of modifications, the ZR1 launched the Corvette into the rarified company of absolute supercars like the Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Diablo and Porsche 911 Turbo. It offered similar performance on all levels yet cost considerably less than the competition. ZR1 proved its durability setting seven World Land Speed Records in March of 1989 – 100 miles at 175.600 MPH, 500 miles at 175.603 MPH, 1,000 miles at 174.428 MPH, 5,000 kilometers at 175.710 MPH, 5,000 miles at 173.791 MPH, 12 Hours Endurance at 175.523 MPH and 24 Hours Endurance at 175.885 MPH. Two of the records ZR1 broke that day were over 50 years old and the ZR1 was paced by a standard Corvette as well, meaning two Corvettes proved their durability at extreme speeds for 24 hours each. For 1993, the ZR1 would be unleashed with 405 HP and Corvette would be celebrating its 40th Anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, 6,749 Corvettes were finished in the special color of Ruby Red inside and out with matching center caps and specialized badges. A $1,445 option, the 40th Anniversary could also be paired with the $31,683 ZR1 package, of which only 245 were produced, bringing the total cost to the $70,000 neighborhood, roughly $146,000 today. This 1993 Corvette ZR1 40th Anniversary Edition is one of those rare and expensive examples. With an odometer reading just shy of 27,000 miles, this 40th Anniversary ZR1 Corvette is fitted with its matching-numbers, aluminum, 5.7L/405 HP 32-valve LT5 V-8 engine and 6-speed manual transmission. In true luxury sports car fashion, it is fitted with power seats, power mirrors, power windows, leather upholstery, power steering, power brakes, specialized ZR1-only wheels with the 40th Anniversary Ruby Red center caps, Goodyear Eagle tires and special 40th Anniversary/ ZR1 badging.
