Ekins mounted Triumphs and counted victories in the Big Bear Endurance Run, the Catalina GP, the International Six Days Trail and the grueling Baja 1000, an event he helped start with his younger brother, Dave. He parlayed his sponsorship and success into a popular Triumph dealership in North Hollywood, where film stars like Paul Newman, Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen came to hang out with Ekins and buy a Triumph of their own. He then became a household name when he served as Steve McQueen’s stunt double in the iconic motorcycle jump scene in the 1963 film, “The Great Escape.” The jump, executed on a Triumph TR6, was the first of countless iconic stunts Ekins performed in classic movies and solidified both Ekins and Triumph in motorcycling folklore.
