With its long, low stance, bobbed rear fender, ape hanger handlebars and 21-inch front wheels, the 1993 Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide, like this beautifully original example, was as close as one could get to a custom chopper off the factory line. In truth, the 1993 FXDWG was a continuation of the vision Willie G. Davidson had introduced with his Super Glide in 1971, which aimed to produce leaner Big Twin factory customs. The Super Glide was a proof of concept, paving the way for variations in the FX line like the Fat Bob, Low Rider and the Wide Glide. With its wide-set chrome forks, 21-inch spoked front wheel, dual disc front brakes and bobbed rear fender, the original Wide Glide was a bold addition to the lineup with equal parts vintage custom attitude and modern features. Though the Wide Glide was discontinued in 1986, Harley- Davidson revived the popular model in 1993 following its introduction of the updated FX frame and branded the Dyna in the limited 1991 FXDB Sturgis. The new Dyna frame proved considerably stiffer than its predecessor, with fewer engine mounts, making them easier to ride, more attractive and easier to produce. The limited edition Sturgis was joined in 1992 by the FXDB Daytona and FXDC Dynamite Glide, and in 1993 came the reintroduction of the updated Dyna Low Rider and Dyna Wide Glide. The new Dyna frame, combined with the Evo V-twin found in newer models like the Wide Glide, established a new benchmark of style and performance for Harley-Davidson, and in 1995, the last non-Dyna FX line was discontinued. This model stayed true to its roots while embracing the modern engineering and styling that Harley-Davidson had developed.
