Debuted for 2006, Audi’s brilliant R8 arrived as a true midengine supercar with permanent all-wheel drive, V-10 power, exotic yet functional styling, and a luxurious, driver-centric interior. Design, development and manufacture of the R8 is wholly under the control of Audi AG subsidiary Audi Sport GmbH, formerly named Quattro GmbH in homage to Audi’s all-conquering Quattros of 1980s World Rally Championship fame. Based largely upon Audi corporate sibling Lamborghini’s Gallardo LP560-4, the R8 is powered by a 5.2L V-10 engine in concert with a rear transaxle and dual-clutch gearbox. Bold styling cues included a purely “Audi” grille and frontal treatment, sculpted bodysides, rear-fender air intakes and an aggressive, purposeful presence. Professionally modified by Underground Racing, this 2020 Audi R8 Decennium features power by a balanced and blueprinted 5.2L V-10 engine based on a racing short-block. While rated at 1,150 HP on premium fuel and 1,500 HP on race gas, the car was built to deliver a driving experience like a stock example, but as stated by its builder, “… this car still drives completely stock, just a lot faster and can be used as an everyday car.” Among its many other upgrades, the R8 is equipped with custom billet twin turbochargers, Tial billet wastegates and blow-off valves, a custom-fabricated stainless exhaust using aircraft-quality metal, billet connecting rods and pistons, and CNC race-ported heads with ARP L19 R8 head studs. Further maximizing power are a JRR MoTec M1 ECU, a custom ice water reservoir and air-to-water intercooler, and a custom stainless air induction system using aircraft-quality metal and K&N filters. Supporting items include upgraded fuel injectors, an Aeroquip stainless fuel line and aluminum fittings, and a crankcase ventilation system. Power is delivered by a 7-speed automatic gearbox with billet helical gears, a DCT racing clutch upgrade, Corsa autoshift and all-wheel drive. Carbon-ceramic disc brakes provide stopping power, and an upgraded coilover suspension enhances handling. A Safecraft fire-suppression system heightens the safety factor. HRE center-lock wheels and high-performance tires deliver road contact for this amazing Audi R8-based supercar.
