The final year for the revolutionary second-generation Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray coincided with the introduction of the most powerful regular production Corvette engine to its time: the mighty L71 Tri-Power Mark IV big-block V-8. The L71 incorporated the same reinforced block, forged internals, high-flow heads with 11.0:1 compression and racy solid lifter cam as the previous year’s L72 rated at 425 HP, but the L71’s increased output was the product of a new induction system featuring three inline-mounted Holley 2-barrel carburetors progressively operated through a unique vacuum-actuated throttle linkage system that produced stunningly aggressive acceleration throughout the operating range. This 1967 Corvette Sting Ray coupe epitomizes the midyear big-block Corvette with its matching-numbers original L71 Tri-Power engine, Muncie M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission and 3.70:1 Positraction rear end, of which the engine has been affirmed by Al Grenning’s Classic Car Affirmation Service. According to the accompanying NCRS/ GM Shipping data Records, the car is a very late production example built on July 6, 1967, just four days before the end of 1967 Corvette production, and was delivered new by Dana Chevrolet in South Gate, California. Finished in Lynndale Blue with a black stinger and matching Teal Blue interior, it was additionally optioned with F41 Special Heavy Duty Suspension, K66 Transistor Ignition, N11 Off Road Exhaust, Soft Ray tinted glass, seat belts, an AM/FM radio and 7.75x15-inch redline tires on Rally wheels. It features excellent cosmetics throughout, with a straight factory nose and body complete with grille tab in place and newer exhaust, chrome and tires. This exceptional Tri-Power 1967 coupe is documented with owner history back to 1978, maintenance receipts for an older engine rebuild and again in 2022 for $11,384, the owner’s manual, sales brochure and a three-ring binder, and it features most all factory-correct-type components including the spare, replacement jack, jack tools, washer system, shifter, shielding, braided wires, air cleaner, 1966 dated carburetors, radiator, gas door assembly, Bowtie mirror and glovebox door.
