Introduced for 2017, the Grand Sport not only recalled Zora Arkus-Duntov’s wild, loosely Corvette-based racers of the early 1960s, it embodied the lessons learned by Corvette Racing. Based on the seventh-generation Corvette and replete with a wide array of cutting-edge aerodynamic and chassis upgrades, the Grand Sport was produced through 2019, combining the Z06 and Z51 performance packages with a potent, naturally aspirated LT1 powerplant. More than living up to its hallowed name, the Grand Sport featured specific wheels, tires, brakes and suspension, plus competition-type dry-sump engine lubrication, an electronic limited-slip rear axle, differential/transmission coolers, RPO NPP Performance exhaust for an additional 5 HP, and special performance gear ratios. Externally, the Grand Sport brought aero upgrades including a frontal air splitter, unique rocker panels, wider rear fenders and a “wickerbill” rear spoiler, to name just a few.
