In 1988, the Chevrolet Corvette turned 35 years old. To celebrate the occasion, 2,050 35th Anniversary Edition Corvettes were produced, each finished in white with matching directional wheels and a black roof bow with a black-tinted removable glass roof panel. The interior matched the exterior’s black and white theme with white leather upholstery, door panels, center armrest and steering wheel. It was a striking look that matched contemporary tastes beautifully, and this Corvette is No. 1,210. Showing just 8,090 miles on the odometer, it is fitted with the 5.7L V-8 engine fed by a tuned port injection system and backed by an automatic transmission. Well equipped, the 35th Anniversary Edition Corvettes featured power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, power mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control, a tilt steering column and an electronic digital AM/FM/cassette stereo system. Accompanied by the owner’s manual, a copy of the window sticker, maintenance receipts, an Ohio vehicle inspection and the Newsletter to 35th Anniversary Owners, this special-edition 1988 Corvette would serve well in any collection. With no production Corvettes built for the 1983 model year, having a 30th Anniversary Corvette was out of the question. As such, the Corvette’s 35th year in 1988 was the next logical choice for an anniversary. To celebrate 35 years, a special-edition Corvette was built finished in all-white with a black halo and transparent removable glass center section. The wheels were white, as were many unique trim pieces, to set it apart from regular Corvettes. The interior matched in its white with black trim guise, the entire look being very popular during the late 1980s. While the idea originally was to pay a little homage to the 1953 Corvette’s only available color, Polo White, the 1988 Anniversary Edition Corvettes truly gained an image of their very own.
