Hot on the heels of the new Hertz Rent-A-Racer Ford Shelby Mustang GT-H was the Shelby GT, introduced for 2007. As in the 1960s, Ford shipped Mustang GTs to Shelby Automobiles (now in Las Vegas), where Shelby tuned them and sold them pre-title to customers. It was the first time Shelby had manufactured a Mustang since the 1960s, as even the GT500s were being built at the time by Ford in Flat Rock, Michigan. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT stood apart from a standard Mustang GT with a host of mechanical and aesthetic modifications including a Shelby hood scoop, rear spoiler delete, a Ford Racing Suspension with improved dampers, a sway bar and lowering springs, and a cold air induction system that—along with retuning the 4.6L V-8—boosted horsepower to 319 HP from the standard GT’s 300. Buyers could also opt to further enhance their Shelby GT with a supercharger, creating the GT/SC. Installed by Shelby Automobiles, customers could choose from various superchargers, including a Paxton, which was affixed to just 47 Shelby GTs. This Mustang GT was equipped with an intercooled polished Paxton supercharger similar to those found on the GT/SC and outfitted with other modifications at Shelby America. Showing a scant 387 miles from new, this car presents very well and is finished in black with silver stripes and Shelby livery. A power-operated, black, convertible top seals out the weather or lets the environment flood the black leather-upholstered interior. The scene under the hood is fabulous, with the supercharger and air intake polished to a mirror finish, blue silicone hoses set in, and a Ford Racing Monte Carlo bar stretching across the engine bay. Equipped with air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD stereo system, power windows, power locks, power brakes, power steering and more, it is very well optioned. Dressed with Shelby alloy wheels, rear spoiler, hood pins and grille, the look is remarkably imposing. During tests, the original GT/SC flashed through 0-60 MPH runs in just over 5 seconds and clipped the quarter-mile in just over 12 seconds, promising that it was a much more aggressive car than a standard GT.
