Road & Track Magazine called the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette “easily the most anticipated American car of the last 20 years,” and for a very good reason. For decades, the rumor mill churned out one after another prediction that the Corvette’s V-8 engine would soon be positioned amidships. Instead, Chevrolet stayed with its conventional layout until it managed to wring every last ounce of performance from that design. The 2020 Corvette not only broke with that tradition, it surpassed every expectation, displaying an astounding new level of performance. The midengine layout increases weight over the rear wheels, enhancing acceleration, grip and overall balance, enabling the new C8 to set new standards in every category. Dubbed LT2, the C8 Corvette’s 6.2L all-aluminum, fuel-injected, dry-sump engine is a development of the V-8 seen in the C7 edition, now producing 490 HP at 6,450 RPM and 465 lb-ft of torque at 5,150. To make the most of that power, Corvette engineers opted for exclusive use of an aggressively geared dual-clutch, 8-speed, paddle-shift automatic transmission that, in concert with a limited-slip differential, contributes to the new car’s breathtaking 0-60 MPH time of less than 3 seconds—better than the last generation Z06 and ZR1, each with at least 150 more horsepower than the C8. The combination of electronic power rack-and-pinion steering, Brembo 4-wheel disc brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport tires on 19- and 20-inch 5-spoke Carbon Flash-painted aluminum wheels is further enhanced by the advanced Performance Traction System that cuts spark instead of employing the brakes to keep the car on the intended line. All that magic is packaged in new coachwork that, while different in many ways, remains unmistakably Corvette. Finished in Elkhart Lake Blue with a black leather interior and showing just 4,400 miles, this 2020 Corvette Stingray offers the most refined Corvette interior package to date, the luxurious 3LT featuring form-fitting, eight-way power seats, a head-up display, remote start, rearview camera and Infotainment 3 Premium system. For many Corvette faithful, this is truly the car for which they’ve been waiting.
