As a tribute to Carroll Shelby, Shelby American, Inc. introduced the ultra-exclusive Signature Series Ford Mustang in 2020 at the National Automobile Dealer Association Show (NADA) in Las Vegas. Fitted with a supercharged 5.0L V-8 engine with a high- flow exhaust system and several cooling upgrades, the engine is good for 825 HP. Interestingly, buyers could opt for either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic, coupe or convertible, and any standard color in the Mustang catalog. In keeping the car excruciatingly exclusive, only 50 Signature Series Mustangs were built, each with a battery of one-off customizations setting it apart from the rest of the Shelby family. The body was widened using aluminum fenders to create a square footprint, which not only looks menacing, but also allows the one-piece forged Monoblock wheels and Ford Performance-tuned MagneRide suspension to maximize the power generated by the supercharged engine. Shelby engineers designed every element of the Signature Series to enhance performance in one way or another—the metallic ram air hood, front fascia and bodywork, for example, were all carefully sculpted to both tame the air and dramatically drop the temperatures under the hood. On top of that, ensuring the Signature Series was the penultimate GT500, Shelby worked with Ford Performance and other performance partners to bring the best ideas to the concept. While the engine gets all the attention, a lot of time was spent marrying the body and chassis to work in unison to control the power and performance capabilities. To achieve this, the chassis was recalibrated and performance-spec tires with specialized wheels were used to ensure exceptional handling, grip and stability. Identifying a Signature Series GT500 from a standard issue model is relatively easy, thanks to the extensive bodywork that’s been massaged in. The Signature Series appears wider, lower and seemingly swoopier. The hood features two inlets, the rear spoiler is flush with a Gurney flap, and the front fascia retains a bumper cover among other details. Also, the interior is a stunning place with specialized leather upholstery emblazoned by the Carroll Shelby autograph at the top of the seatbacks. This Signature Series is CSM No. 20CSS0043, finished in blue with white Le Mans stripes. Having traveled a mere 103 miles from new, the car features the automatic transmission, Torsen limited- slip rear differential with 3.73 gearing, engine and transmission coolers, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, heated and ventilated seats, air conditioning, a tachometer with full instrumentation, launch control and Shelby-branded 4-wheel Brembo disk brakes with two-piece rotors, 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston calipers in the rear.
