The term evolution has been alternatively stated as “survival of the fittest.” When considering fit in the world of performance cars, that means power, preservation and provenance. Perhaps proudly atop that food chain is this car, a 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody, each word in its name denoting parts of its DNA. Showing a miniscule 125 miles since delivery, this car’s Customer Preferred Package 27S meant the ultra-street powertrain and associated equipment, hence the Redeye name. There is a 220 MPH speedometer, SRT power chiller, track suspension mode for increased handling prowess, and other upgrades. The Hellcat term represents the 6.2L/797 HP supercharged V-8 engine, a brutal Hemi release that demands respect. Equipped with the high-performance engine controller and associated SRT-developed internals, the engine is backed by the heavy-duty automatic transmission and factory limited-slip differential. The Widebody designation allows for more rubber and comes with the auto-adjustable competition suspension plus big Brembo brakes to slow it down. Here, the exterior is cover in Pitch Black with the Redeye twin-scoop hood design. The interior appointments include the Plus package, the Laguna leather package, the Driver Convenience Group and the Technology Group. The black interior is offset with white stitching and includes ventilated seats, a power sunroof, remote start, premium door and dash panels, a power tilt and telescopic steering column, dark engine-turned interior accents, automatic high-beam headlamp control, rain-sensing wipers, power mirrors, a Harman Kardon 18-speaker sound system and blind spot and rear cross traffic detection alerts. Finally, the Redeye Widebody fender design also gives the car a lower look while allowing the wide, black, alloy wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires to tuck nicely under the car. While the Redeye was not a “limited edition” in terms of production, its initial cost and associated expenses will always keep them quite unique in the Challenger family. Moreover, just like the Challenger’s original 426 Hemi predecessors, once the Redeyes are gone, they will be legends.
