For 1958, all the divisions of General Motors would see a major makeover of their full-size offerings, emerging with quad headlights and a longer, lower, wider stance all around. Dripping with chrome and brightwork, Cadillac was especially adept at carrying the new look, with small tailfins jutting up gently but very noticeably, chrome spears on the rear fenders, bullet-style tail lights, twin chrome spear hood ornaments and more setting the tone. The 1958 Coupe Deville was one of the most popular Cadillacs of the time. Available in a variety of colors inside and out, customers could choose from a lengthy list of options and interior fabrics and leathers. It all conspired to generate healthy sales, even in the face of a fairly serious recession. A heavy, Cadillac-traditional advertising campaign also helped, with spectacular photography depicting enviable lifestyles ranging from exclusive holiday parties to elite country club socials, each with a Cadillac parked and awaiting its owner. One ad read, “A Crowning Achievement…From Every Standpoint,” and went on to discuss how advanced an automobile it is, noting that in its entirety, it is “motordom’s crowning achievement.” This Coupe Deville is finished in two-tone Metallic Blue with a white top and a black leather interior. Exquisitely well detailed, the Deville looks positively ready for its photoshoot to be included in a Cadillac advertisement. Powered by the 365 CI V-8 and Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, the Tri-Power is covered by a gold-painted air cleaner and valve covers, adding even more visual pop to the overall high level of detailing. Very well equipped, the Coupe Deville provides passengers with power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power windows, a pushbutton AM radio, electric clock, tinted glass, an Autronic Eye and more. Rolling on wide whitewall tires with full-size wheel covers, the entire scene allows for a remarkable throwback to another era when a different brand of luxury was served up.
