Following up on the stunning, totally restyled 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, the lightly updated 1964 models maintained Corvette’s growing momentum with production rising to 22,229 units—a new all-time high. Fewer coupes, sporting a new one-piece rear window, were sold for 1964, but substantially higher convertible sales that year made up the difference. Both Corvette models featured carefully simplified styling with fewer embellishments for a cleaner presence, while other updates for 1964 included better interior ventilation, more interior color choices and the debut appearance of newly optional RPO P48 cast aluminum knock-off wheels. While the competition-use Z06 option package was discontinued after 1963, powertrain combinations remained essentially unchanged, but the carbureted L76 and L84 Rochester Ramjet fuel-injected 327 CI V-8 engines were now substantially uprated to 365 and 375 HP, respectively. Transmission choices continued with the cruising-oriented 2-speed Powerglide automatic and the Muncie M20 4-speed selected by the vast majority of 1964 Corvette buyers—19,034 of them in all. Formerly part of the noted private collection of John Justo, this 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is a high-quality survivor retaining its original Riverside Red paint finish, which was the most popular exterior color choice for its model year. The red vinyl interior is also original to the car, exceptionally well preserved and highly inviting. Unrestored with 80,000 miles, the Corvette has obviously been meticulously maintained throughout its lifetime. Following assembly completion on December 4, 1963, the Corvette was delivered new to Woosencraft Motors in Pulaski, Michigan. As offered, this high-specification 1964 Corvette retains the original RPO L84 327/375 HP V-8 engine with Rochester fuel injection, special high-flow cylinder heads, 11:1 compression and the famed “Duntov” high-lift, solid-lifter camshaft. Other choice factory options included factory J50 power brakes, the C07 Auxiliary Hardtop, A31 Power Windows and the U69 AM/FM Radio. The Corvette currently rides on a set of P48 Cast Aluminum Knock-Off wheels, with the original steel wheels, hubcaps and blackwall tires included with the sale of the vehicle. Predictably, this highly optioned and outstanding Corvette has earned significant awards in Corvette circles, including Bloomington Gold Survivor and Silver Certification; however, there is further potential for awards and recognition in NCRS and concours events, affording a great opportunity for the next caretaker to continue the vehicle’s show career. Documentation is outstanding, including an NCRS Shipping Data Report, the Owner Protection Plan (Warranty) booklet, the Owner’s Manual inside a plastic sleeve, original Corvette AM/FM radio instructions and an original dealer brochure, plus copies of prior titles. A 10-page document is also included, with a breakdown of every casting and date code to showcase the Corvette’s matching-numbers components and exceptional integrity. Bloomington Gold judging sheets and lapel pins document the Corvette’s show career. While all surviving examples of the legendary fuel-injected Corvette are indeed desirable and collectible, smart collectors rightly gravitate to correct and well-maintained, unrestored examples. Well-documented and recognized for its correctness and completeness, this beautifully preserved and highly optioned fuelie from 1964 stands tall as a prime-quality survivor, very well-suited to smart collectors who appreciate the looks, feel and experience that only a high-quality, never-restored car can possibly deliver.
