When it comes to details, it’s hard to beat this Chevrolet 3100. Never raced and usually trailered, this Resto Mod pickup has been gone through from stem to stern, top to bottom and leaves nothing untouched. The 4L80E full manual 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission was built by TCI and is complete with a trans brake, 2600 stall converter, aluminum finned oil pan and an Outlaw shifter, all beautifully fitted to the new 540 Merlin big-block Chevrolet engine for a package that’s ultimately capable of 1,000 HP. Big Al’s Toy Shop built up the engine with a Blower Shop 871 polished aluminum blower, twin 950 CFM Holley carburetors, Hooker Super Comp 2-1/8-inch full- length headers with custom 3-inch stainless steel exhaust and electric cutouts, all of which is ceramic coated, and an ocean of other mods, creating an engine that dyno tested at 858 HP and 812 lb-ft of torque at the crank. Detuned to run on 93 octane street gas, it now produces a more docile 570 HP and 601 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. Two polished aluminum Nitrous bottles in the bed can provide an additional 200 HP, but they’ve never been filled. The chassis is a work of art unto itself. Using a fully boxed frame, tubular upper and lower control arms, a custom fabricated 9-inch Ford rear end with Currie 4:11 locker, 35-spline performance rear axles and custom 4-link with coilover shocks make up the bulk of the build. Keeping it all in check and making the 3100 an easier truck to enjoy are CCP 300 quick-ratio power steering and Wilwood big brakes with massive 14-inch front rotors and 6-piston calipers and 13-inch rear rotors with 4-piston calipers. The rotors are cross drilled and slotted while a Hydro-boost master cylinder located under the cab provides the pressure. The truck rolls on new, custom-built Billet Specialties Legacy 2 Extreme wheels measuring 18x7 up front and 20x15 out back, with Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R tires provide the grip. An all-steel Colorado truck, the 3100 has less than 1,800 miles on the entirely professional build. It’s painted bright yellow, a stunning array of chrome brightens up the already bright scene, and it’s obvious from the bed to the engine bay and passenger compartment that every detail has been tended to. It’s also fitted with fabulous custom tricks like a drop-down battery box under the cab with remote battery lugs for charging. The interior features bucket seats, a center console, leather by Wise Guys, a full aluminum dash by No Limit Engineering complete with Auto Meter gauges, a Custom Autosound stereo system, air conditioning, full carpeting and much more. With wiring by Ron Francis Wiring, plenty of power is available to run the custom LED lighting, power windows and so on. It’s a safe bet it will move very quickly—but it’s a great cruiser too, rich with details.
