While Corvettes from the 1967 model year were initially intended to feature the new Mako Shark show-car body style, concerns about the aerodynamic efficiency, cooling efficiency and production-readiness of the new design caused its postponement and the continuation of the existing Sting Ray. However, this debacle led to the release of the final, and what many fans argue, the best of all second-generation Corvettes. Two small-block engines remained, still rated at 300 and 350 HP respectively; the 427 CI Mark IV big-block returned in four levels of tune, including the hydraulic-cam, 4-barrel L36 with 390 HP and the triple-carbureted L68 with 400 HP, plus the 435 HP solid-lifter, triple-carbureted L71, the aluminum-head L89/L71, and rare L88, only available to racing teams with factory connections. While sales were down a bit for ’67, due to many potential Corvette buyers’ decisions to wait for the newer Corvette to come for 1968, the 1967 Sting Ray was Car and Driver magazine’s “Best All-Around Car” for 1967. A total of 22,940 Corvettes were produced for 1967, with the majority (14,436) being convertibles. This 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is one of just nine known in the rare color combination of Rally Red with a white hood stinger and interior, benefiting beautifully from a comprehensive body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration including an exterior refinished in factory-correct DuPont lacquer paint. Retaining the original matching-numbers 427/435 HP engine, as per the CCAS affirmation on hand, the Corvette’s other features and options include a 4-speed manual transmission, F41 suspension, white soft top, Pushbutton AM/FM radio and a heater/defroster. Predictably, this Sting Ray’s excellence is confirmed by top awards in Corvette circles, including the coveted Triple Crown, resulting from Bloomington Gold certification, NCRS Top Flight and the Chevy Vettefest Gold Spinner award. Other honors include NCRS Performance Verification and the Duntov Mark of Excellence award. Original documents include the tank sticker and Protect-O-Plate. Residing in select company with its litany of elite awards and riding on Rally wheels with period-style redline tires, this 1967 Corvette Sting Ray is undoubtedly one of the finest.
