To cut right to the chase, this is officially the fastest Porsche 928 ever built. It has raced multiple times at Pikes Peak, where in 2007 it finished in third place for the Open Division, a win it repeated in 2009 along with the accolade of being recorded as the Fastest 2-Wheel Drive Car. At the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2011, it set a World Porsche 928 record at 216 MPH; in 2016, at the NASA GTS Series, it was the Season Points Leader of the Unlimited Division; and in 2020, at the TRC Proving Grounds, it established the World Porsche 928 Speed record at 234.434 MPH, simultaneously setting the World Closed Course Porsche 928 record. It’s been called “The Meg” after the biggest shark to ever live, the Megalodon, which has been said to have been one of the most aggressive sharks ever, roughly twice- to three-times the size of a Great White. The 6.5L Porsche 32-valve V-8 engine delivers 1,114 HP and 956 lb-ft of torque. Custom-built by 928 Motorsports, The Meg features a list of modifications to the engine, transmission, electronics and so on that reads like a never-ending racer’s wish list. The highlights include a custom intake system with 12.6L twin plenums, GF-Nylon composite high-flow intake runners, stainless steel valves, beehive race springs, copper and beryllium seats, custom camshafts by 928 Motorsports, a Vortech V7 YSi supercharger with cogged belt drive and an Electromotive TecGT Engine Management system. With all this power and equipment, the engine was then static and dynamically balanced to within 0.1 grams. Harnessing all the power is a team of equipment starting with a 6-speed Tremec TR6060 transaxle with close-ratio gear set, a Getrag limited-slip differential with 2.73:1 final drive ratio, a custom lightweight aluminum torque tube, a custom high-torque driveshaft by RPM Transmissions and a Tilton triple-disc clutch. The chassis is likewise engineered, like the engine and transmission, to deliver absolute performance under the most demanding conditions. It starts with Forgeline 13x8 three- piece modular wheels and Hoosier tires front and rear, with Brembo vented and cross-drilled rotors working with 4-piston brake calipers to efficiently stave speed, while PRO double-adjustable shocks all around and 928 Motorsports springs complete the package with a Hypercoil kit, and GT1 sway bars and 928 Motorsports adjustable drop links help keep The Meg solidly planted and gripping the ground. Making sure even more grip is provided from the air, a 928 Motorsports GT-1 widebody kit and carbon fiber rear wing, front chin splitter and the entire underside of the car all work in unison to provide maximum aerodynamics and downforce. Weighing about 2,850 pounds, The Meg is certainly no one’s average 928. To reproduce something like this would be astronomical, not only financially, but emotionally. But here it is—the world’s fastest Porsche 928.
