The idea of buying a new car as an investment toward the future is not as recent as some would think. The owner of this special, silver 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary edition resisted the temptation to lay down miles with it, which is why it remains in such highly original condition, showing a mere 191 miles on it since 1979. Stored in a climate-controlled building, this stunning car originally came off the Van Nuys, California, assembly line and was shipped to Hanson Motor Co. in Redfield, South Dakota. A copy of the original MSO is here, as is the original build sheet, while a second build sheet is still behind the rear seat and visible from the trunk area. Also included is the original owner’s manual in its original sleeve and the original consumers information booklet. The 10th Anniversary Trans Am was a fitting conclusion to the decade, coming with big-inch power and special one-time-only décor pieces. For power, the car received the 6.6L engine, a 403 CI mill based on a corporate platform that was mated here to an automatic transmission. Loaded with options, the original engine shows light patina as expected, accompanied by air conditioning, power steering and power brakes. The metallic silver paint was unmistakable, with the giant Firebird hood decal engulfing the shaker hood and front fenders, plus T-tops, fender flares and stylized front and rear spoilers blended to the bumpers. The sterling theme continued inside, where silver leather inserts were selected for the upholstery and turned-metal finishes added a sparkle throughout. Power windows and locks, an AM/FM 8-track stereo, a sport steering wheel, a console-mounted floor shifter, a full complement of gauges, the tilt steering column and cruise control complete the interior, with dual outside mirrors, chrome exhaust exits, pinstriping, Limited Edition decals and turbine- design wheels with Goodyear Polysteel Radial tires finalizing the exterior. As a metal, silver has always held value, and this very special Trans Am should hold similar power in today’s demanding marketplace.
