An early production example built in November 1964, this 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible is a three-owner Central Florida example that has been in its latest owner’s care for the last 15 years. It is one of the last Corvettes factory equipped with the all-conquering L84 Rochester fuel-injected 327/375 HP small-block V-8 engine, the most powerful small-block ever installed in a Corvette until the introduction of the 1990 ZR1, which was powered by the Lotus designed 4-cam, 32-valve LT5 V-8. 1965 also marked the final year of production for the venerated Rochester fuel- injected Corvette small-blocks, which gave way in mid-March 1965 to the new L78 396/425 HP Mark IV V-8 engine that set the ball rolling on the era of big-block Corvettes. A multiple-time NCRS Top Flight Award winner including Regional Top Flight to its credit, it was also displayed at the Winter Park Concours d’Elegance in Winter Park, Florida. It still presents in beautifully detailed show-quality condition after a body-off restoration that retained the original no-hit front end and rust-free frame. Its 327/375 HP Fuelie V-8, one of only 771 ordered, is backed by a wide-ratio Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission and 4.11 Positraction rear end, all affirmed as having matching numbers. Correctly finished in Ermine White with a White soft top, matching auxiliary hardtop and a handsome Saddle interior, it is a particularly attractive example offering F40 Special Heavy Duty suspension, power disc brakes, transistorized ignition, Soft Ray tinted windshield, AM/FM radio with power antenna and full-size wheel covers over optional 7.75x15 Blackwall tires. It is documented with complete owner history since new, the window sticker and warranty booklet with the all-important Protect-O-Plate, 1967 title and previous registrations and Engine Stamp Affirmation from Al Grenning’s Classic Car Affirmation Service, LLC. This multiple award-winning Fuelie convertible retains most factory correct type components including the spare, jack and tools, dated hardtop, hardtop wrench, floor mats, seatbelts, washer system, tar top battery, shifter, shielding, air cleaner, 207 ignition coil, voltage regulator, alternator, distributor, idler pulley, spark plug shields, hoses, hose clamps, F40 shocks, SS brakes, window glass, valve covers, fuel injection unit, fuel box door, owner’s manual, sales brochure and T3 headlights.
