When Ford introduced the Taurus SHO in 1989, the Yamaha-engined sedan was intended as a limited- production vehicle. However, the SHO’s popularity extended availability for 11 model years over three Taurus generations. This Taurus SHO comes from 1993, the only year during the second generation that offered black as an exterior color. One of the few produced with a black exterior, this 1993 SHO has spent most of its life in California and is still equipped with a matching-numbers 3.0L Yamaha V-6 engine. Ford introduced the Taurus “Super High Output” as a high-revving, high-performance model to transform its boring, four-door family sedan into a peppy flagship car. The heart of the SHO is its engine, developed and assembled in conjunction with Yamaha. With dual-overhead-cam, aluminum cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder, the V-6 screams to its 7,000 RPM redline, where it tops out at 220 HP. The unique induction system incorporates side plenums and crossover intake tubes with secondary throttling valves that open above 4,000 RPM, as controlled by Ford’s EEC-IV engine management. The SHO is also the only Taurus equipped with a manual transmission. Subtle exterior styling identified the second- generation SHO models, including 6-spoke, cast aluminum wheels, Mercury Sable front fenders and hood, a front bumper with fog lights, side cladding, a small rear spoiler and a rear bumper with embossed “SHO.” The interior includes sport bucket seats, a “SHO”-embossed steering wheel and an 8,000 RPM tachometer. Well-preserved, this 1993 Taurus SHO is equipped with power steering and disc brakes, power windows, a power moonroof, a black leather and cloth interior, speed control, the Luxury Convenience Group and a rear window defroster. Always maintained at its owner’s Ford dealership, the SHO benefits from recent servicing, newly charged air conditioning, professional detailing and new 215/60/VR16 high-performance tires. Also included with the sale is the Marti Report, original MTX transmission reverse warning tag, a letter from Ford Performance with a Certificate of Authenticity, a clean CarFax and a framed Taurus SHO Performance Group Certificate.
