A treasured part of The Dr. J. Christian and Jennifer McCarter Collection since 2001, this 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback, Shelby No. 01128, shows all the elements of prideful ownership and careful preservation. Now showing just 48,072 miles, it was shipped to Sexton Ford Sales of Moline, Illinois, on March 22, 1967. In contrast to the original 1965-66 Shelbys, the 1967 model was dramatically restyled to give it a much more aggressive appearance. Up front, a fiberglass nose extension housed a unique grille fitted with twin 7-inch driving lights, shrouded by an extended fiberglass hood with twin intake scoops and hold-down pins. Upper and lower body side scoops, also rendered in fiberglass, were fitted to the rear roof panels and lower quarters. At the rear, a fiberglass trunk lid and an integrated spoiler were fitted over 1967 Cougar tail lights flanking a Cobra-emblem gas cap. The new Shelby GT500 had the power to match its aggressive demeanor thanks to its Ford 428 CI Police Interceptor V-8, which Shelby modified with dual-inline Holley 600 CFM 4-barrel carburetors on an aluminum intake manifold, finned aluminum Cobra LeMans valve covers and matching air cleaner for a factory rating of 355 HP. According to its listing in the Shelby Registry, 01128’s first owner is unknown; its second owner, Dennis Pritchard of Deerlodge, Montana, owned the car from 1968 through 1979, during which time he drag raced it, reportedly running 10-second elapsed times. Its third owner, David Scott, also of Deerlodge, is reported to have driven it just 50 miles in his two years of ownership. During his subsequent 10 years of ownership, 01128’s fifth owner, Greg Adams of Moorehead, Minnesota, performed a comprehensive restoration that remains in beautiful, well-preserved condition today. Combining beautiful Dark Moss Green paint with white stripes and a black Décor Group interior, its matching-numbers 428 CI engine was meticulously rebuilt by Blue Oval Performance of Englewood, Colorado, and retains the original dual Holley 4-barrels and Autolite dual-point distributor. Optioned with a 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, the extra cooling package and rare Magstar wheels with Goodyear white-letter tires, the car’s black interior features a reconditioned original Shelby wood-rimmed steering wheel, tachometer, clock and AM radio, roll bar and fold-down rear seat.
