Built in the village of Dunmurry in Belfast, Northern Ireland in September of 1981, this DeLorean DMC-12 was shipped to Wilmington, Delaware for United States entry and sold new at Bob Dance Dodge in Longwood, Florida. With just 4,253 original miles, it presents largely as new. The DMC-12 splashed onto the scenes in 1981 giving GT sportscar customers something new to consider. The glinting stainless-steel exterior and gull-wing doors, combined with a stance measuring just under 45-inches tall, stunned the press and public alike. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the DMC-12 was unlike anything anyone had ever seen. The lengthy roster of standard amenities included air conditioning, power locks, power windows, power mirrors, a digital AM/FM/Cassette stereo system, full instrumentation, 4-wheel disc brakes, a tilt-telescopic steering column, a full leather interior by Bridge of Weir in either light grey or black, tinted glass and more set the tone that this was indeed a high-end vehicle. Priced at around $26,000 in 1981, roughly $80,000 in 2022 USD, it was not for the financially faint of heart. Positioned in the rear was a Renault-sourced 130 HP, 2.8L V-6 jointly engineered by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, gaining it the name PRV-6. While a 5-speed manual transmission was standard, a 3-speed automatic was an available option. This particular DMC-12 is fitted with the automatic transmission and black interior as well as the optional wide ‘DMC’ side stripe. To be sold with the original window sticker, owner’s manual, DMC consumer information booklet, original maintenance schedule/record, national dealership list, dated recall notice, letter to the original owner in Palm Beach, Florida announcing a new customer service for emergency assistance with a toll-free 800 number and two sets of keys, it seems as though this DeLorean is a virtual time capsule.
