By 1978, the Z28 package had been part of marketing the Chevrolet Camaro for 11 years, and while the high-compression, 302 CI, muscle car engine was gone, the car offered here from “the disco era” may have added notoriety. Completely refinished with a documented rotisserie restoration, this car, named “Zed Sled 2,” was featured multiple times in Car Craft Magazine as an official “Car Craft” project vehicle between 2015-16 and was also showcased at the 2016 SEMA show. While it looks simply custom detailed on the outside, beneath the hood resides a twin- turbocharged 6.0L/700 HP LQ4 V-8 engine, the iron-block Vortec 6000 design that often came in trucks and responds well to supertuning and forced induction. Topped with Holley EFI and featuring heat-wrapped turbo units, custom-trimmed front fender ports and unique customized valve covers, this beastly engine is backed by the 4-speed 4L80E automatic transmission. The build process continued with a Pro Touring-grade adjustable suspension, a roll cage, 4-wheel Wilwood disc brakes and mild custom body modifications. The paint is done in Jet Black, with the exterior featuring a rear-open cowl hood, reflective lower rocker metallic side stripes ending in the car name, a full-width, three-piece rear spoiler, dual body-color outside mirrors, and blacked-out edge chrome. Inside is also fully customized, featuring side-support TMI bucket seats in red with dark leather-like inserts and race safety belts, a TMI pistol-handled floor shifter, a center console, a 1,000-watt Memphis Audio sound system, custom door panels and a flat-bottom steering wheel with soft grips. The car has been treated to a full LED headlight and tail light conversion. The wide, custom ForgeLine three-piece wheels are set up for autocross and extreme handling environments, with blackwall BF Goodrich radials helping the Camaro hug the pavement. With a Power Tour 2017 rear window applique, the custom TMI Interior and scads of horsepower potential on tap, while one could just play “Kashmir” on the radio, this Z28 is one that needs to be both seen and heard to be truly appreciated.
