Named Car and Driver magazine’s Best All-Around Car for 1967, the final-year, second-generation Corvette stands as the finest of its generation. Retaining its original Marlboro Maroon paint, interior and 427/435 HP engine, this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is offered with just 14,575 original miles and carries excellent history as a one-owner car until 2003. Purchased new by Richard Karpenko on April 25, 1967, from Porter Chevrolet in Cambridge, Massachusetts, it was drag raced during its early years. According to a photograph on file, drag racing time slips show this Corvette turned a 11.33-second quarter-mile elapsed time at 123.79 MPH and another run at 11.71 seconds and 125.69 MPH, earning its driver a “125 MPH” club patch. An affidavit with the car states the original engine was rebuilt during its drag racing career, the engine pad was decked during the rebuild and the correct assembly codes and VIN derivative were reapplied, with all other numbers correct. In addition to the 4-speed manual transmission, this L71 Corvette also features factory side-exit exhaust, F41 Heavy Duty suspension, power brakes, an AM/FM radio, tinted windshield and Rally wheels with white-stripe tires. Documentation is excellent, with vintage photographs showing the car upon delivery and racing at the drag strip, plus the original owner’s manual in its pouch with a handwritten maintenance log on the back page. Other desirable items include a Corvette Welcome set and letter, sales brochure, Excise Tax receipt from 1974, a copy of the 1973 title application, the radio antenna tag and instruction booklet, letters between the first and second owner, and even $1.16 in spare change found under the seat in 2003. Importantly, the Tank Sticker has never been removed, and the Protect-O-Plate, order form and dealer invoice are also included with this low-mileage, unrestored 1967 Chevrolet Corvette.
