For 1953, Ford introduced its second generation of F-Series trucks. The light-duty pickups were refined and enhanced, now offering larger cabs, larger beds, improved engines and chassis, and stronger frames and bodies. These would also begin the F100 nomenclature, replacing the F1 designation. Interestingly, it’s been said that, at least in part, the F100 name was derived from the F-100 Super Sabre supersonic jet fighter. The basic idea of the 1953 F100 would sustain through 1955, with 1956 being similar but hosting unique design elements like a wraparound front windshield. Despite its uniqueness, it would mark the final year for the basic body style, with 1957 ushering in an entirely new F-Series pickup that was extensively restyled with a squared-off look and featured a number of very modern design cues. For many, the 1956 F100 is the ultimate pickup, offering classic styling, the inimitability of one-year-only design elements and a body that receives customization very well. This custom- built 1956 F100 is just such a testament to the philosophy. The body seams and air vents were filled and smoothed over, and the pie-cut hood lends the front end an angled, lower look. The bed is finished and smoothed without stake pockets, and the chrome and stainless is minimal but makes a statement. Meanwhile, the red paint is polished to a mirror finish. This F100 is powered by a 351 CI Windsor engine built by Jon Barrett Engines, while an MSD ignition, headers, stainless- steel exhaust, polished air cleaner and valve covers, and an FMX automatic transmission all add to the allure. The interior is upholstered in a two-tone black and gray with textured surfaces, full carpeting and a smoothed dashboard with an almond-shaped instrument cluster. Fitted with a tilt steering column, split-back bench seat, Vintage Air conditioning, power steering and 4-wheel disc brakes, it is vastly more comfortable to drive than when it rolled off the assembly line. Rolling on staggered 18- and 20-inch Foose 5-spoke custom wheels with Toyo Proxes tires, this one-year only F100 makes a statement on top of a statement.
