Of all Corvette generations, the one most sought-after by today’s collectors is undoubtedly the second-generation Sting Ray of 1963-67. Of those Corvettes, the most coveted are the final 1967 models with their uncluttered styling. Performance was ferocious throughout production with a wide array of available powertrain combinations including the mighty 427 CI Mark IV big-block in four levels of tune for the street. The wicked 435 HP solid-lifter, triple-carbureted L71 was a particularly brutal performer and excellent value at just $437.10 over the Corvette’s base MSRP. While sales were down a bit for 1967, the 1967 Sting Ray was Car and Driver magazine’s “Best All-Around Car” that year. A total of 22,940 Corvettes were produced for 1967, with the majority (14,436) of them convertibles. All Corvettes are special cars indeed, but this example is far more so, offered in highly original and unrestored condition with just one owner from new until early 2021. Clearly benefiting from garage storage, it was ordered by Joseph C. Callahan of Fairfield, Connecticut, and delivered on April 10, 1967, to Russell Chevrolet, also in Fairfield. The Corvette was garaged at Callahan’s home, where he was born and resided his entire life until his passing in March 2021 with no direct heirs. Interestingly, Callahan ordered the Corvette as a soft top delete, and it came with a hardtop only. The vehicle has never been shown, and Callahan kept a black book with all service intervals noted. Recently, the Corvette was sent to a local classic auto center, where it was gone through and a new battery was installed. A wonderful benchmark of originality, the Corvette retains its original Tri-Power L71 427/435 HP engine, M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, 3.70 Positraction rear differential, Goodwood Green paint, black vinyl interior and AM/FM radio. Choice features and options include power windows, a Telescopic Steering column, mandatory RPO K66 Transistorized Ignition and bolt-on wheels. Documented with the original dealer paperwork, window sticker and Protect-O- Plate, this one-owner and amazingly original 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible will provide a fabulous entry into many desirable events.
