The street model of the Z28 Camaro became very popular in 1969, with production jumping to over 19,000 examples of those Chevrolet sports models getting the exclusive DZ-suffix 302 CI V-8 engine installed on the factory assembly line. The combination offered true street performance with aggressive manners, eye-pleasing styling and an already-deserved respect. It was when the other options got checked off that this stunning example becomes exclusive in that group. The beneficiary of a professional nut-and-bolt, body-off restoration, this car features a matching-numbers SCCA Trans-Am-series derived powerplant, which featured a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, Winters aluminum intake, large-port heads, forged reciprocating parts and, on this car, both the correct exhaust and smog pump equipment. The 1969 Z28 is fitted with the ZL2 special ducted hood, and like all Z28 Camaros, it is equipped with the requisite 4-speed manual transmission. The 12-bolt Positraction differential behind the Muncie completed the driveline. Designed for serious handling, power steering, power brakes with front discs and the Z28’s heavy-duty suspension parts are also on this car. The first buyer also checked off Z22, which added the Rally Sport premium trim package to this Z28. Finished in Hugger Orange with white stripes and the racing-oriented front and rear spoilers, the RS option included covered headlamps, grille and rocker blackout, premium thin- line chrome trim, changed back-up tail lamp locations and premium interior upgrades. This car has a black bucket-seat interior, a center console featuring gauges, a Hurst shifter, an in-dash tachometer and a clock, a radio and pedal brightwork. Outside, the rechromed bumpers feature bumperettes, there are dual outside mirrors, and Z28 emblems are small but visible, as is the 302 displacement emblems on the hood bulge. The Z28 rides on 15-inch Rally wheels, and Goodyear Wide Tread GT raised-white-letter tires give it a no-nonsense stance.
