The C/K series of Chevrolet and GMC trucks was introduced for the 1960 model year and marked a number of substantial changes for the brand. The third generation was introduced for 1973 and spanned through 1988, becoming known as one of the most popular, recognizable pickups ever. Called the Rounded Line by General Motors, the new trucks ironically featured very squared-off architecture, which allowed for a larger cab and bed than the second-generation C/Ks. Development of the new truck began in 1968, with Bill Mitchell designing the body in 1970, which interestingly set the tone for future full-size American trucks, both Ford and Dodge largely following the squarish styling into the 1980s. Featuring an extensive list of options, paint combinations, interior trims and engines, the new C/K line followed the trend of customers wanting more personalization and comfort from their trucks as more people began using them as daily transportation. For 1974, the Custom was Chevrolet’s entry-level pickup, but opting for RPO Z62 would step it up to the Custom Deluxe with additional features. Sporting a mere 17,722 miles from new, this 1974 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe is presented in fabulously unrestored condition, complete with the original two-tone Hawaiian Blue and white paint. Of the Fleetside body style, it was manufactured in April 1974 and equipped with a 350 CI V-8 engine, Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission, power steering, front disc brakes, an AM/FM radio, clock, gauge package, roof drip moldings, chrome front and rear bumpers and full-width bright metal wheel covers. The Z62 option also brought about an interior illumination system, cigar lighter, full-length door sill scuff plates, additional trim on the door panels including wood-grain inserts, and additional insulation under the hood and on the cab back panel. Inside, passengers will enjoy the Slate Blue coloring and the bench seat upholstered in vinyl with multi-striped nylon cloth inserts. The dashboard and door panels are trimmed with wood-grain inserts, and the chrome-rimmed gauges are nestled within a camera case finished surround. A Kraco 8-track player/FM converter mounted under the dash provides a lovely nod to nostalgia. Rolling on BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewall tires, the car comes with paperwork from GM of Canada.
