S184 1985 KAWASAKI 750 TURBO E2 Turbocharged, factory production motorcycles hit the apex in the mid-’80s, and this 1985 Kawasaki 750 Turbo won the battle for boosted supremacy against contenders from Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. This fuel-injected E2 model was garage-kept under a cover for more than 30 years and shows just over 4,600 miles on the clock. Kawasaki was both early and late to the 1980s turbo motorcycle party. It beat the rest to the punch with the 1978 Kawasaki Z1R TC, a highly effective turbocharged low-10-second quarter-mile monster, and trounced them again in 1984. The 750 Turbo was lightyears ahead of its predecessor and its contemporaries. Honda rolled out the 1982 CX500T, Yamaha followed with its XJ650L Seca Turbo and Suzuki introduced its angular XN85. Unfortunately, none of the contenders lived up to their promise of lighter bike power in a middleweight package, and none of them mattered NO RESERVE anymore when Kawasaki unleashed the fearsome 1984 GPz 750 Turbo. The far more refined street fighter could click off 10-second quarter miles and live up to its claim of the fastest production motorcycle of its time. Magazine road tests clocked a near 150 MPH top speed. While the competition wheezed along with 5 to 7 PSI of boost, Kawasaki turned it up to 11 PSI, and the engine produced 112 HP at 9,000 RPM and 73 lb-ft of turbo torque at 6,500 RPM. The engine packed low-compression pistons, a hardened steel primary chain and a burly clutch pack for turbo durability. Locating the turbo close to the exhaust ports reduced lag and brought weight low for better handling. Digital fuel injection featured an array of throttle sensors for maximum performance. This Kawasaki king of the street was recently recommissioned to factory specs and fitted with new Michelin Road Classic tires for the ultimate ‘80s turbo experience.
