T128 1966 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLH For fanatics of rarity, Harley-Davidsons from 1966 should prove to be enticing motorcycles because of all the one-year-only offerings, and this FLH is packed with them. Part of the Newport Vintage Cycles Collection, this bike received a professional mechanical and cosmetic restoration using the original frame, sheet metal and 1966-only fuel tanks and fuel valves. The original 74 CI, V-twin, 2-cylinder engine, with case numbers 166-4532, is fed by a rare and correct 1966-only carburetor and breathes through a 1966-only fishtail exhaust. Sharp eyes will notice the rare and correct, 1966-only primary cover with inspection hole plug. The first year of the Shovelhead engine, this FLH is in running condition and also features a number of extremely rare OEM parts and optional accessories beyond the 1966-only items, such as the cigarette lighter and tachometer with cable drive, OEM mirrors and stems, and the NOS Tour pack with keys and rider backrest. Finished NO RESERVE entirely in black and white with whitewall tires and chrome-spoke wheels, the motorcycle is fitted with the proper windscreen, polished light nacelle, white grips and rests, and lighting. The FLH once again established itself as Harley-Davidson’s most luxe bike, with its new engine, the Shovelhead, featuring aluminum heads like those used on the Sportster, increasing the power and efficiency with improved smoothness. The electric starter, which was introduced in 1965, made startups easy, and with its nearly 800-pound weight, seating for two, much more subdued mufflers, crash bars, saddlebags and more, the FLH Duo-Glide was a really hard bike to beat for long cruises on the open road. The power poured on effortlessly, and riders marveled at the torque. At speed, it wasn’t always necessary to downshift—just throttle up and go. This 1966 FLH with all the trimmings and careful attention to original components and styling is a rare treat indeed.
