Introduced in late 1962, the Corvette Sting Ray was a watershed in the Corvette’s development. Featuring a futuristic, almost otherworldly body design rooted in early sketches by Peter Brock and Bill Mitchell’s self-funded Stingray SCCA racer, and then guided to production by Larry Shinoda, the second-generation Corvette was improved and updated with each model year through 1967. Equipped with an updated front suspension and a revolutionary, yet remarkably simple, independent rear suspension, the Corvette matured into a true sports car. Carefully and continuously improved, the Corvette finally gained disc brakes at all four corners by 1965. While many enthusiasts focus on the fuel-injected and big-block models of the era, the basic 327 CI V-8 engine provided a winning combination of high performance with ease of maintenance and operation in the relatively lightweight Corvette. In fact, with 360 lb-ft of torque, the 300 HP 327 was a very capable performer with excellent handling, thanks to its ideal weight distribution and balance. Benefiting handsomely from a recent frame-off restoration by professionals, incorporating mostly original or new factory-correct components, this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible has only undergone test miles since completion. It’s been repainted in Code 984 Sunfire Yellow, which is accented by a new black convertible top, new or polished brightwork and a new black interior. The chassis was media blasted, primed, prepared and refinished in black as well. The 327/300 HP V-8 engine, numbered F0328HE, is based on Block No. 3858174 and includes a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, No. 3367, and intake manifold, No. 3872783. The rebuilt Muncie 4-speed manual transmission is numbered 3885010, and the differential is numbered 3871375. Desirable features and options include a radio, new power steering, a new suspension and a wide array of other new items, including the exhaust, battery, fuel lines, gas tank, weather stripping and wiring. The exhaust manifolds are numbered 3846559 left and 3747042 right. The Delco Moraine brake master cylinder is numbered 5467084, and the power brake system is new. Steel wheels mount full bright wheel covers and a new set of Firestone whitewall tires for a great 1960s look.
