Previously part of the acclaimed Bob McDorman Collection, this 1959 Chevrolet Impala Convertible shines throughout after a series of custom modifications by Street Productions in Largo, Florida, that bring its presentation and performance to the next level. Originally highly optioned from the factory with features that include power windows, a power top, power seats, air conditioning and power steering and brakes, it was the subject of a frame-off restoration initiated in 2010 and completed in 2012 by Steve Cooley Motors Inc. in Homosassa, Florida. The frame and suspension components were media blasted and finished in semi-gloss black, and the body was refinished in period-correct DuPont Inca Silver paint. Finishing details included rechromed trim by Graves Plating Co. Inc. in Florence, Alabama, rare NOS side moldings and a new factory-style silver interior. Following the restoration, the car was stored with an odometer reading of 133 miles in a climate-controlled facility. In 2020, it was then sent to Street Productions for a thorough mechanical upgrade. The 348 CI W-head V-8 engine now incorporates a custom Autotrend electronic fuel-injection unit built to appear as a vintage Tri-Power setup with replica Rochester throttle bodies, a hydraulic camshaft and 10.2:1 compression. Now rated at 315 HP, it is fed fuel by an original-style fuel tank with a built-in high pressure Tanks Inc. fuel pump and custom fit fill-through cap, with a Holley HP ECU and custom wiring harness modulating fuel delivery. In addition to the stock-appearing Powermaster Powergen alternator with correct badging and decals, the electrical upgrades include a Holley Hyperspark distributor and MSD’s Street Fire CDI ignition box and Blaster coil. Ancillaries include 304 stainless steel custom dual exhaust and a four-core radiator fitted with the OEM stamping to preserve the original look. The 350 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission incorporates a new Hughes high stall speed converter and is backed by a 3.08 rear end. The smooth-riding suspension is a combination of custom coil springs by Coil Spring Specialties, RideTech single adjustable shocks, Hotchkis front and rear sway bars and a Saginaw 605 power steering box. Wilwood 4-wheel power disc brakes with 11- inch Dynalite rotors, a Wilwood tandem aluminum master cylinder and Hella rotary vane vacuum pump produce excellent stopping power, while Diamondback 215/65R15 radial whitewall tires on EVOD custom billet aluminum 15x8-inch wheels with knock-off-style centers provide excellent handling and a classic appearance. EVOD also provided the unique, custom, resized fuel-injection emblems. The interior is an impressive amalgamation of thoughtful enhancements that maintain the overall factory appearance, including the EVOD aluminum steering wheel on a one-off Flaming River tilt column, recalibrated original gauges, factory Wonderbar radio retrofitted with Bluetooth internals, Retro Sound speakers and Pioneer subwoofer, a USB port located in the cigarette lighter location, period-correct seatbelts and retractors and new hand-fitted carpet. Beautifully executed, this stunning 1959 Impala convertible exemplifies the very best in period-faithful customs.
