F135 2007 FORD MUSTANG SALEEN PARNELLI JONES EDITION Serial No. 003 of 500, 1,635 Miles Since New The second of two owned since new by Parnelli Jones, this 2007 Ford Mustang Saleen Parnelli Jones Edition is Serial No. 003 of a limited production run of just 500 cars. The idea of building a modern rendition of Jones’ iconic 1970 Trans Am Championship-winning Boss 302 racer came from the man himself, who told the story in a 2007 interview with Motor Trend Magazine: “Because I won the Trans-Am championship for Ford in 1970, I’ve always had a great feeling for the Boss, and I always wanted to restore one. So I finally bought one, and I was driving it before I started restoring it. And you forget how antiquated things are in comparison to new cars. So I said, this may not be that much fun to drive. I’m going to gather up a bunch of pictures and I’m going to take them down to Saleen, and just have him paint me a Saleen Mustang. So we got down there and then got to talking and one idea and then another idea come up … until finally we realized we could sell a few of these. So that’s kind of how it all happened.” That collaboration between two of America’s racing icons produced the best of both worlds: a searing performer in the great Mustang tradition and a top-tier collector automobile of impeccable provenance. Far more than just a surface cosmetic treatment, the transformation to Parnelli Jones Edition reflects Steve Saleen’s famously thorough approach, with the added inspiration of working with Jones to achieve the look and performance to rival the original car. Together, they completely reworked Ford’s 4.6L OHC V-8, increasing displacement and allowing it to rev more freely with an aluminum flywheel driving the stock Mustang 5-speed and 3.73:1 rear end. Breathing through a functional Shaker hood scoop and free-flowing exhaust, the V-8 produces a generous ESTIMATE: $100,000 - $125,000 400 HP at 6,000 RPM and 390 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM. Handling was upgraded with Saleen Racecraft Watts linkage rear suspension and larger 14-inch Saleen front disc brakes. Grabber Orange paint, black graphics, front and rear spoilers, rear-window Sport slats and 19-inch Saleen Minilite-style alloy wheels combine to faithfully recall Jones’ famed 1970 Boss 302 Trans Am Championship-winning racer, the theme extending to the black and orange interior. Well-appointed with power windows, locks, decklid and driver’s seat, split rear seats, air conditioning, remote keyless illuminated entry and Shaker 500 sound, the interior also features contrasting orange stitching, unique “PJ” embroidery on the seatbacks and floor mats, and its creators’ autographs on the silver dash panel. Offered with just 1,635 miles, this Mustang Saleen Parnelli Jones Edition will be an indispensable highlight of any premium Mustang collection.
