The second-generation 1963-67 Corvette is an unqualified icon and quite likely the most-collectible of all classic Corvette lines. The 1965 model marked a major watershed in Corvette history with a long-awaited set of 4-wheel disc brakes now standard equipment. Produced on January 5, 1965, this example features a rare color combination including Ermine White paint, a white convertible top and a one of 216 Maroon interior. Delivered new to Deanza Chevrolet in Riverside, California, this body-on restoration retains the matching-numbers original drivetrain comprising a 327/300HP L75 V-8 engine and M20 4-speed manual transmission. Other highlights include a correct shifter, AM/FM radio, correct seatbelts, a Bowtie mirror and glovebox door. Correct mechanical details include the air cleaner, distributor, spark plug shields, hoses and clamps, coolant-expansion tank and radiator. Other choice details, features, and options include power steering, correct shocks and shielding, T3 headlights, Positraction, 4-wheel disc brakes—standard for the first time in 1965—and a period-correct set of 7.75x15 white-stripe tires. The car’s restoration began after the car was purchased in March 2008 by Mike Ison, who had a new convertible top installed shortly after. While he warned the shop not to put anything on the 30-plus-year-old paint, several strips of tape applied to prevent scratching as they replaced top ultimately removed some of the paint across the back of the car when it was removed. An insurance claim paid for most of the repaint, but the project ultimately turned into a full body-on restoration, at which time it was discovered it had a no-hit body and all of its original bonding strips. It took about five months for the car’s repaint in Ermine White, which was followed by Ison ensuring the in-car wiring was correct over the following months. Ison then made three attempts at earning an NCRS Top Flight award, with the final attempt scoring 94.7. This Corvette has also recently earned a succession of top-level awards and accolades at numerous shows and events, including Bloomington Gold Certification in 2022, display at NCRS Top Flight Chapter, Regional and National Events in 2022, the MCACN Triple Diamond Award in 2022, the Hilton Head Concours Palmetto Award in 2021, and AACA First Junior (2022) and First Senior honors (2023). Documentation includes Bloomington Gold, NCRS and MCACN judging sheets, plus the original trim tag and VIN plate, original window sticker, and an owner’s manual, warranty booklet and sales brochure.
