By 1967, the Pontiac GTO was well-known as a performance car to be reckoned with. The car that arguably fathered the muscle car genre, the GTO won over the press and public alike with sharp styling, a lengthy roster of options, affordability, performance and a youthfulness that brought valuable attention from young car buyers to the Pontiac brand. When it was introduced in 1964, the GTO was equipped with a 389 CI V-8 engine which served the model well through 1966, but for 1967, Pontiac would bore and stroke the 389 and create the 400 CI V-8, which would become the standard GTO engine. In keeping with the youthful pricing, the 400 was available in Economy (265 HP), Standard (335 HP) and High-Output (360 HP) variants. This 1967 GTO is one of just over 9,000 convertibles produced that year and is a 21-option car, as outlined by a copy of the build sheet. Finished in white with a black convertible top and interior, this three-owner GTO was the recipient of a frame-off restoration using original body panels. Fitted with a rebuilt, matching-numbers 400/335 HP V-8 engine with a 4-barrel carburetor and a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission, the car, and specficially its interior, truly demonstrates the well- optioned nature of this GTO. Features like bucket seats with headrests and a reclining passenger seat, a center console with a custom floor-shift knob, rear seat belts, power windows, Soft Ray glass, factory air conditioning, a sport steering wheel atop a tilt steering column, an AM/FM pushbutton radio with an electric antenna, the Rally gauge cluster with a tachometer, and lighted luggage and underhood areas all prove how well equipped this car is. Power steering and power brakes with front discs make maneuvering the GTO a thing of simplicity, while the Saf-T- Track rear axle with 3.23 gearing allows for smart acceleration and efficient highway cruising. The Rally I wheels and redline tires lend the car a racy, period-correct look, but the sale includes the optional, factory deluxe wheel disc covers. Also fitted with door-edge guards and a remote-operated, chrome sideview mirror, the GTO comes with restoration photos, the original build sheet and the original Owner’s Protection Plan and warranty book which outlines the initial maintenance records and illustrates the original owner and the selling dealership. The car also has the original convertible top manual and the Pontiac accessory booklet. The car was the recipient of a POCI Silver Award, and recent work was performed by Atlanta Rod Shop to qualify for Gold Level judging.
