Noted Northeast Corvette specialists Vette Dreams of Long Island, New York, performed a concours-quality, body-off restoration on this 1956 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, reflecting an estimated investment of more than $100,000. This is an exquisite example combining a highly desirable color combination and rare options with the first true high- performance engine in a production Corvette: the optional RPO 469 265/225 HP V-8 with dual Carter 4-barrel carburetors on an aluminum intake manifold and dual-point ignition. The Corvette also underwent its first major redesign for 1956, introducing newly sculpted rear bodywork, exposed headlights and the signature side coves that defined the look for the remainder of the first generation. A part of the J. Newman Collection and with the past owner for 20 years, this concours-quality Corvette presents beautifully in Polo White with Silver Metallic coves, a red interior, a rare, optional, power-operated white top and red- painted steel wheels fitted with wide whitewalls and spinner wheel covers. In addition to its matching-numbers, dual-quad 265/225 HP OEM engine, Powerglide 2-speed automatic and 3.55 rear end, the car is fully optioned with power windows, an auxiliary hardtop, off-road exhaust, an E-brake warning light, windshield washers, courtesy lights, heater and a Wonderbar AM radio. Driven just 1,484 miles since its restoration, this 1956 Corvette was an invitee to the Concours d’Elegance in Greenwich, Connecticut. It is documented with restoration photos, older registrations dating back to 1972 under Hawaiian ownership and post-restoration, and comes complete with most all factory-correct-type components for ultimate quality and authenticity from the spare, jack and jack tools, to the fuel filter, hood alignment blocks, owner’s manual, T3 headlights and more.
