With only 3,765 miles showing on the odometer, this 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra is a wonderful example of the final-year Fox Body Mustang and the first vehicle from Ford’s Special Vehicle Team, a group formed in the early 1990s to further develop the 5.0L Mustang as a performance car. In the final year of the Fox- body Mustang, SVT produced 4,993 street Cobras, marketing them through SVT-authorized Ford dealers. They were offered in three colors, and this Cobra is one of only 1,355 produced in Teal Metallic Clearcoat and, of those, one of just 802 with the Opal Grey leather interior. Like the Boss and SVO Mustangs that came before it, the 1993 Cobra was a total performance package from the factory, capable of impressive acceleration, track-worthy handling and superb braking. SVT increased the 5.0L’s horsepower to 235, a sport- tuned exhaust system provided a unique sound, and the 5-speed manual drivetrain was upgraded. Revised “controlled compliance” suspension settings resulted in a combination of improved handling and comfortable ride. Exterior styling was subtle, including a small grille opening, SVO-like tail light lenses, a unique rear wing and unidirectional, 17-inch, cast aluminum wheels. No. 4,576, this low-mileage SVT Cobra is equipped with air conditioning, power rack-and-pinion steering and a four- way power driver’s seat. The Mustang was sold new by Folsom Lake Ford in Folsom, California, and the Newcombes purchased the car sight unseen from the original owner in 2001, who had stored it at his business in non-operational status after an injury that prevented him from driving. The car has had only one registration, and those California license plates come with the car. The car has been trailered and show in Mustang Club of America National and Grand National shows in the unrestored class, earning the Gold award at all nine shows it attended and totaling 21 points to earn the Blue Grille Medallion. The car was then shown in the MCA Concours Conservator class at 10 shows, earning the White Grille Medallion and Conservator de Elegance award in 2013. Maintained in a climate-controlled garage, the Cobra comes with its original tires, SVT Certificate of Authenticity, window sticker, dealer tag and owner’s manual, and its original battery and oil filter are also included.
