As the Mustang Fox Body entered its final year in 1993, Ford saw no need to revamp the GT’s successful formula of 5.0L performance and sporty aerodynamic looks. Since 1987, when the Fox Body received its latest styling update, the GT hatchback and convertible had successfully served as the Mustang’s top-of-the-line model, differing substantially from the base LX with a sleek no-grille nose, aero headlights, front air dam with round fog lights, side slats with scoops, and louvered rear tail lights. By 1993, the GT had upgraded to 16x7-inch, five-spoke “star” wheels. The 5.0L High Output engine also returned for 1993 with its electronic fuel injection, open-chamber cylinder heads, roller camshaft and tubular headers, although it was rated at a lower 205 HP due to a new SAE rating system. However, despite that lower rating, it was identical to the previous year’s 225 HP engine and capable of mid 14-second quarter- mile ETs with minor tweaking. Vibrant Red with a black vinyl interior and top, this 1993 Ford Mustang GT Convertible from The Kenny & Marilyn Newcombe Mustang Collection has been well-maintained in climate-controlled storage, with its condition almost contradicting the 125,000 miles showing on the odometer. The Newcombes purchased the car from its previous owner in Marietta, Georgia, on July 9, 2001 with 118,741 miles. They then set out to refurbish the car and customize it to their wishes, including new Mach 1-style seats, the installation of Dynamat, new carpet, a new top and a repaint by Murphy Restoration in Hampton, Georgia. The car was later driven to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the 50th Mustang Anniversary Show in 2014. Equipped with the desirable 5-speed manual transmission, the GT has been mildly modified with cold-air induction, BBK Performance caster/camber plates, chrome-plated factory wheels, white-faced gauges, a more durable Ford Motorsport clutch quadrant and aluminum controls and covers. Other features of this final year Fox Body include air conditioning, a four-way power driver’s seat, a Traction-Lok rear axle and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
