Kar Kraft No. 1492, this 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback is unquestionably one of the most impressive, well-preserved examples in existence. Extensively restored to like-original specs by noted marque expert and MCA judge Bob Perkins, it boasts the original drivetrain, MCACN Concours Gold honors and, at a mere 1,287 miles, one of the lowest odometer readings of all. Built at the Dearborn, Michigan assembly plant on March 7, 1969, it was delivered new by selling dealer Bedford Motors of Bedford, Ohio, on April 11. One of 857 built, its special features began with the eponymous Boss 429 V-8 engine, in this case an early production version bearing the 820-S designation, denoting the use of NASCAR-spec heavy-duty connecting rods with half-inch bolts. Underrated at 375 HP, the Boss 429’s key feature was its pair of massive aluminum cylinder heads, which featured canted valves, enlarged ports and hemispherical combustion chambers. A forged rotating assembly and “dry deck” head sealing contributed to the engine’s ability to sustain NASCAR-level performance. KK No. 1492’s original engine, complete with the factory emission controls, remains in place, along with the original close-ratio, 4-speed manual transmission and Traction-Lok differential. KK No. 1492 is finished as original in Black Jade and retains the Boss 429 features comprising a Ram Air hood scoop, functional front spoiler, color-keyed racing mirrors, Competition Suspension, power steering and power front disc brakes, and the original Goodyear Polyglas tires on Magnum 500 wheels. Its original black Deluxe interior includes high-back bucket seats and console, a Philco AM radio and a window sticker affixed to the driver’s side glass. The original Ford/Motorcraft battery and battery box have been retained and are included, along with a letter from the previous owner’s family detailing the mileage, the original newspaper ad from the when the family bought the car, substantiating the mileage, a copy of the build sheet and a detailed Marti Report.
