This exquisitely finished and extensively documented 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe is a four-time winner of the National Corvette Restorers Society’s Top Flight Award at the Chapter, Regional and National levels, as well as the recipient of the Society’s two most important and prestigious honors: the Performance Verification Award and the Duntov Mark of Excellence Award. Its story began with its completion on December 5, 1963 at the St. Louis, Missouri, assembly plant, where it became one of just 243 1964 Corvette coupes equipped with the L76 327/365 HP small-block V-8 in combination with factory air conditioning. It was delivered new to Plains Chevrolet in Amarillo, Texas, dressed in Code 940 Satin Silver metallic paint over a black vinyl interior and additionally equipped with the Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission, 3.70:1 Positraction rear end, Soft Ray tinted glass and an AM/FM pushbutton radio. A skillful repaint was conducted in 1985 in Satin Silver that still shows the original factory primer and the factory-original paint on the door jams and hood drip rail. Now showing 75,243 original miles, it retains the matching-numbers factory drivetrain, which is documented with a complete list of correct date codes and part numbers, among the most interesting of which is the build date on the engine stamp pad, F1122RR, signifying one of American history’s most significant dates: November 22, 1963. The black vinyl interior retains the original bucket seats and features new carpets, restored gauges and the original, factory, dated tinted glass. The front suspension was restored and the factory air conditioning system was also restored, both documented by binders full of receipts, one of which was put together by NCRS Chassis Judge Gary Jaynes. A featured car in the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado HD sales brochure, this former California Sting Ray coupe won NCRS National Top Flight honors in 2019 at Greenville, South Carolina, with a score of 96.0. In 2021, it scored 97.6 for a Top Flight Award at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mini Regional, where it also earned the coveted Performance Verification Award. At the 2022 National Convention in Mobile, Alabama, it reached the pinnacle of the Corvette hobby, winning another National Top Flight Award with a score of 98.2 and the NCRS’s most prestigious honor, the Duntov Mark of Excellence Award. A worthy candidate for the most exclusive collection, this prize midyear coupe’s treasure trove of documentation includes NCRS Judging Sheets and award ribbons, an NCRS Shipping Data Report, historical registrations from 1984 to 2022, two copies of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado HD brochures featuring this car, the original California Black plates, an original owner’s manual, original owner’s manual bag, protection plan and seat belt instructions.
