In 1964, Ford introduced the Mustang, which would become its best-selling model with more than a million orders in just the first year and a half. The following year, Carroll Shelby and his crew reworked the Mustang into a full-blooded racing machine. The on-track success of the Shelby GT350s led to the production of GT350s for the road, which were offered in various configurations until 1969. In 1967, Shelby American took the Mustang GT350 concept a step further when it began installing a 428 CI Police Interceptor V-8 engine into the newer body style Mustang. Now dubbed the GT500, 2,048 examples of this high-powered Shelby Mustang were produced in 1967, with production ending in 1969. In 2022, Ford and Shelby American unveiled a special, second-generation Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition to honor the model’s 55th anniversary. At its heart was a 5.2L supercharged Predator V-8 engine that produced 760 HP. With all that horsepower being fed through a Tremec 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, carbon fiber driveshaft and a 3.73-ratio Torsen limited-slip rear differential, the Heritage Edition GT500 was capable of launching from zero to 60 MPH in just 3.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 180 MPH. Bearing Chassis No. N0662, this 2022 Ford Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition is one of just 1,250 Heritage Editions produced for 2022 and is finished in Brittany Blue with painted Wimbledon White racing stripes (a $12,140 option) over a black interior. Offered with its window sticker still affixed and only 18 miles on the odometer, this special Shelby is loaded with innumerable options including the Carbon Fiber track pack ($18,500), the Technology package ($3,000), the exposed carbon fiber interior package, exposed carbon fiber rear wing and the GT500 exclusive trim package. Among the numerous features are adjustable strut top mounts, launch control/line lock, the Magneride damping system, electronic power-assisted steering, an engine oil cooler, a carbon fiber driveshaft, quad-tipped dual exhaust, a unique vented hood with hood pins and Brembo disc brakes with two-piece vented rotors behind exposed carbon fiber wheels. Inside are such niceties as leather-trimmed Recaro front seats with rear seat delete, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, a Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control and much more. Museum owned since late 2022, this 2022 Ford Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition is accompanied by the factory floor mats and car cover, as well as the GT500 Certificate Package.
