The Chevrolet Corvette is arguably the longest-lasting bastion of performance-focused American motoring. Introduced in 1953, the Corvette has undergone several major transformations before reaching its current eighth generation, introduced in 2020. While the first and second generations had wildly different looks, the formula had been generally standardized by the third generation, introduced in 1968. The third-generation Corvette carried over most of the engine and chassis components from before, but boasted a new body and interior styled after the Mako Shark II show car. It was also the second Corvette to carry the Stingray name, although it was combined into a single word rather than the “Sting Ray” nameplate used from 1963 to 1967. 1970 brought a few changes to the third generation, namely fender flares, a new egg crate grille, front fender side vents, larger squared turn signals, rectangular exhaust tips and redesigned seats. Performance was also enhanced, with a now-standard Positraction rear axle and wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. The legendary 350 CI LT1 V-8 was also introduced, making an impressive 370 HP thanks to numerous technological improvements, including a forged steel crankshaft, impact-extruded pistons, a high-lift camshaft, low-restriction exhaust, an aluminum intake manifold, a 4-barrel carburetor and finned aluminum rocker covers. This particular 1970 Chevrolet Corvette was treated to a body-on restoration, and is finished in a striking combination of Cortez Silver over a bright red interior. It retains its original engine and rear end, as well as its original tank sticker and owner’s manual. In the restoration, the brakes, heater core, carburetor, distributor and smog system were all refreshed, and the car also sits on period-correct Rally wheels and correct tires. Also included in the sale are previous registrations, service records and AM/FM operating instructions. With an impressive restoration, an eye-catching color combination and ample historic documentation, this third-generation Corvette represents the pinnacle of its era, ready to keep riding today.
