42 // MECUM.COM Looking to expand his individual efforts even further, Sinise established the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2011 with the mission to serve and honor America’s defenders, veterans, first responders, Gold Star families and those in need. Today, the foundation is as committed as ever to finding new and exciting ways to give back to those who sacrifice for the U.S., creating and supporting unique programs designed to not only entertain but educate, inspire, strengthen and build communities as well. The programs are numerous, ranging from Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment (R.I.S.E.), which builds 100% mortgage-free, specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded heroes and provides home modifications, mobility devices and adapted vehicles to injured, wounded, ill and aging heroes, to the Snowball Express, which provides year-round programming and support for the surviving spouses and children of fallen heroes, encouraging them to make new memories and providing them with opportunities to connect with others who understand what they’ve been through. With the holidays being an especially challenging time for grieving families, the Snowball Express hosts a five-day experience each December at Walt Disney World Resort for more than 1,750 children and their surviving parent or guardian, offering a blend of fun entertainment and inspiring programs, all the while giving families the opportunity to lean on their peers for support. Throughout his many years dedicated to the cause, Sinise has made encouraging others to follow his example part of his personal quest, a legacy he hopes will endure as he continues to expand the foundation’s mission. “I believe we can never do enough to express our gratitude and give support to the men and women who willingly go into harm’s way to keep us safe and free, but we can always do a little more,” Sinise wrote in a letter on the foundation’s website. This January, a special 2021 Ford Bronco First Edition customized by noted designer Chip Foose will give bidders in Kissimmee an opportunity to get involved, with all proceeds from its sale set to benefit the efforts of the Gary Sinise Foundation. Wearing a limited edition Lightning Blue paint scheme, the Bronco was originally donated by Sunbelt Rentals, a proud sponsor of the foundation for many years. Once turned over to Foose, the plan came together for a number of exclusive mechanical and appearance changes to this upscale off-road vehicle. The powertrain starts with a twin-turbocharged 2.7L EcoBoost V-6 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission and Terrain Management with G.O.A.T. modes, while a Magnaflow custom ceramic-coated exhaust system in black was installed as well. The factory Sasquatch Package has been refined with a custom coilover suspension system by King Shocks, and front and rear locking differentials move Fuel Off Road wheels and tires.
