Unrestored with original Royal Maroon paint and a matching- numbers 428 Cobra Jet V-8, this 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible is a highly original, three-owner car with ownership documentation back to its original purchase by Lee Gould from the Gould Coal Company in Chicago. According to the Deluxe Marti Report, the convertible is one of just 19 produced in Royal Maroon with a white interior, a highly desirable feature in today’s Shelby market. With the odometer reading 38,634 miles, the Shelby remains in very original condition, including its white convertible top, boot cover, and foam padding. According to its long listing in the official Shelby Registry, the GT500 showed just 35,000 miles in 1995. Like all 1969 Shelbys, the GT500 received its unique Shelby components at the A.O. Smith facility in Ionia, Michigan. Shelby and Ford went to extreme lengths to differentiate the premium-priced Shelby from standard 1969 Mustangs, a conversion that included abundant use of exterior fiberglass for the hood with functional NASA-scoops, front fenders, trunk and rear panel with wide, sequential operation tail lights. Other unique Shelby components included front fog lamps, roll bar, full-length body stripes, side scoops, center-mount exhaust outlet and aluminum five-spoke wheels. The Shelby package also included the Mustang’s Deluxe interior with tachometer, 9-inch rear axle with 3.50 Traction-Lok differential, power front disc brakes and Competition Suspension. This unrestored 1969 Shelby GT500 convertible, 9F03R480281, is well-documented with its original dealer invoice, buyer’s order sheet, two build sheets, two warranty cards, a bill of sale to the second owner in 1987, Shelby serial number verification and email correspondence from Shelby Registrar Vincent Liska. Uniquely, there is also an original photo of the Shelby in the shipping yard awaiting its delivery to Jim Aikey Ford Inc. Also included with the sale are service records, including recent repair orders for a new clutch, battery, voltage regulator and convertible top motors, plus major detailing and ceramic coating. The Shelby is also equipped with four new BF Goodrich raised white-letter radial tires.
