Showing only 744 miles, this rare 1995 Mustang Cobra R presents in highly original condition. Offered for sale by the original owner, the 351-powered, race-inspired Cobra R comes with its original invoice, a window sticker, and original purchase documentation. One of only 250 produced by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team for 1995, the Cobra R was created to provide licensed road racers with a homologated competition Mustang to battle Camaros and Firebirds in IMSA endurance racing. Building on the first Cobra R from 1993, SVT pushed the “R” concept even further for 1995 with a unique 5.8L V-8, the first use of a 351 CI engine in the Mustang since 1969. At $37,599 MSRP, the Cobra R was also the most expensive Mustang to date. The 250 available units sold out in just 10 hours, and all were produced in Crystal White with a Saddle cloth interior. SVT went to great lengths to produce the 1995 Cobra Rs, which were made race-ready by MascoTech, a race shop contracted to install the “R” Competition Package components that included a 20-gallon competition fuel cell, high-capacity fuel pump, aluminum radiator, Eibach springs with double-adjustable Koni struts and shocks, larger stabilizer bars, strut tower brace and coolers for the oil and power steering fluid. The engine was based on a Ford marine short-block and enhanced by GT40 cast-iron heads, Crane roller rocker arms, a Cobra upper intake and large-tube shorty headers. The drivetrain consisted of a Tremec TR-3550 5-speed, unique driveshaft and 8.8-inch rear end with 3.27 gears in a Traction-Lok differential. For weight savings, the back seat, radio, fog lights, air conditioning, power seats and power windows were deleted. Externally, the Cobra R was distinguished by its raised fiberglass hood, rear spoiler, and aluminum 17 x 9-inch 5-spoke wheels. Although some 1995 Cobra Rs saw competition duty, this one, powered by the 5.8L/240 HP High Performance V-8 and heavy-duty 5-speed manual transmission, was purchased for its collectability value and comes with its SVT Letter of Authenticity, owner’s manual and extra key.
