Maybach would convert just 99 Mercedes-Benz Geländewagens into the hyper-exclusive G650 Landaulet, each with a starting price of $550,000, making it one of the most exclusive vehicles ever built. With this, the G650 joined a very special group of vehicles from Mercedes-Benz with stretched bodies and wheelbases, powerful engines and removed rear roof sections that often exemplified the company’s finest offerings. The G650 reminds of the Grosser Mercedes-Benz 600-series from the 1960s and ’70s and the 300-series “Adenauer” cars from the 1950s and 1960s, the most expensive of which were normally stretched and given an open rear section top. Based on this history, the G650 fits right in. To create the ultra-luxurious vehicle, Maybach performed a number of modifications, including fitting it with an extended chassis, which would lengthen the G-Wagen by a staunch 22.8-inches. This allowed the vehicle to accommodate various enhancements, including repositioning the rear seating section and using twin reclining Maybach S-Class rear seats, a leather-wrapped Maybach center console, a retractable soft top and an electronically operated partition with electrochromic glass. Passengers are further spoiled with foldout tray tables, heated and cooled cup holders and individual four-zone climate control among many other nuances. Maybach would also install an electronically adjustable suspension, a G65 AMG Biturbo 6.0L/621 HP V-12 engine, a 7-speed AMG Speedshift Plus automatic transmission, triple locking differentials and portal axles from the G500 4x4 Squared, ensuring it would not only be very quick, but surprisingly capable on virtually any terrain. Maintaining a yin to the yang are 4-wheel disc brakes with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers. This example showed just 1,041 miles on the odometer at consignment and is presented in Designo Mystic White 2 with a two-tone White and Black Designo leather interior. Details abound throughout, including a two-tone multifunction steering wheel, white contrast stitching and high-gloss carbon fiber trim, a Designo Black Dinamica headliner, front and rear seats with heating, ventilation and massage features and an 8.4-inch display, Harmon Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system with Mercedes-Benz COMAND navigation. To sum it up, the Maybach G650 Landaulet may be as close to a luxury private jet as an automobile can be.
