For enthusiasts, the Plymouth Superbird needs little explanation, but for the general public, these remain some of the most incredible production cars ever released. Created to legalize pieces for superspeedway racing, just under 2,000 Superbirds were constructed, but this car is among just 77 produced with the expensive, optimum 426 Hemi engine and automatic transmission. Having received a professional frame-off rotisserie restoration, those are still original to its build. The Superbird here is also incredibly documented, with an original broadcast sheet, original IBM punch card, factory owner’s manual, and known ownership history with historic photos. Expert overviews include two Chrysler Registry reports, one completed prior to restoration and a second one completed after the restoration, and a Dave Wise report completed in 2022. The matching-numbers 426/425 HP V-8 engine, with its multiple carburetors and NASCAR-derived engineering, is between the front fenders and the associated matching-numbers A727 Hemi TorqueFlite automatic transmission backs it up. All A727 Superbirds received the A36 Performance Axle Package with 3.55 SureGrip gearing, and this car has power steering, power brakes with front discs, and Hemi-grade suspension components as well. Unmistakable in EV1 Alpine White, the aerodynamic design pieces exclusive to this release include the fender-mounted simulated air scoops, a special rear glass treatment, unique sheet metal with nosecone, and the towering deck spoiler with its large colorful Superbird logo on each pylon. Inside, this car came with the bench seats in black with silver accenting, adjustable headrests, a performance instrument cluster that includes the optional N96 Tic-Toc-Tach, 3-speed wipers, Chrysler AM radio, and column-mounted shifter. Other exterior cues are the functional hood pins, covered headlamps, exclusive chrome A-pillar trim and chrome exhaust tips. There are 15- inch Rallye wheels and Goodyear Polyglas GT tires to complete the look. The Superbird was offered only one time, with the 440 as standard, the 440 6-BBL engine as an alternative, and the Hemi reserved only for the most dedicated buyers. Desirable as a collector car and still evoking immediate awe from onlookers, this Hemi Superbird will have you join an exclusive cadre of owners.
