Returning for its third model year, Shelby American’s Ford Mustang-based GT350 was updated with the arrival of the revised second-generation Mustang body shell. Ford designer Chuck McHose directed styling cues in close collaboration with Shelby American, including special front and rear treatments, giving the Shelby Mustangs an unforgettable GT-flavored visage. Inside, upscale Mustang GT-level appointments, plus a 140 MPH speedometer and a roll bar with inertia-reel shoulder harnesses, echoed the competition flavor of the new Shelbys. Powered by the high-winding and lightweight 289 CI K-Code solid-lifter V-8 engine with 10:1 compression and dual exhaust, the GT350 was further tweaked to 306 HP at 6,000 RPM with the addition of a 715 CFM Holley 4-barrel carburetor, “Cobra” aluminum high-rise intake manifold, and exhaust headers. An impressively engineered and integrated package, the GT350’s many other standard features included high-performance suspension and 15-inch wheels with standard units supplemented by optional Kelsey-Hayes MagStars and Shelby’s cast-aluminum 10-spoke wheels. All ’67 Shelby Mustangs originated from Ford’s San Jose, California, assembly plant, which was located within easy reach of Shelby American’s production facilities at the former North American Aviation plant on the edge of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Always a niche car, Shelby’s Mustangs were built in small numbers. In 1967, 2,048 big-block GT500s and just 1,175 GT350s were produced. Special-ordered through Hi-Performance Motors (Shelby Dealer) and later traded to Pletcher Ford, Pennsylvania, this GT350 carries Shelby No. 02545. Benefiting from a ground- up restoration by Tri-City Mustang Restoration, St. Charles, Missouri, it retains the original matching-numbers drivetrain. A one-of-one example as factory optioned, its 289/306 HP V-8 engine is paired with an automatic transmission. Desirable Shelby/Kelsey-Hayes MagStar alloy wheels accent the Shelby’s original Dark Moss Green exterior and black interior. In addition to being equipped with factory air conditioning, a 1967 Mustang AM/FM radio was installed during the restoration. Other highlights include California emissions and tinted glass. On the show field, this highly decorated GT350 has achieved the coveted Shelby “Triple Crown” at SAAC-36, consisting of Gold, MCA Grand National Gold and the Team Shelby Diamond Award. Additional honors include an invitation to the Concours of America, the SAAC Indiana Gold Concours Award and multiple MCA awards, including Best in Class and Best of Show. Extensive documentation includes copies of original Shelby American invoices, original literature, a Shelby owner’s manual, sales and warranty documents, a window sticker copy and a Marti Report, plus photos documenting the restoration. Offered from a carefully curated, preservation- focused classic car collection, this GT350 is graced by Carroll Shelby’s iconic autograph, with the passenger-side dash panel numbered and signed by Carroll Shelby with the personal note, “Green with Envy.”
