The code Z15 was shown on the ordering sheets for 1970 when you went into the Chevrolet dealership, and selecting it meant only one thing—you knew what you wanted! This car got Z16, the SS454 Package, which included the power front disc brakes, heavy-duty suspension, blackout on the grille and tail panel, and engine dress-ups. That was for the standard LS5. Wait, you want an LS6 solid lifter motor rated at 450 HP? Oh, add $263.30 to the $503.45 Z16 and it’s in there. You knew what you wanted! This car retains its matching-numbers 454/450 HP Turbo-Jet V-8 engine, with the big Holley 4-barrel carburetor, a Winters aluminum intake, solid-lifter cam and dual exhaust, which here is updated with headers. Behind this is the M22 Muncie Rock Crusher 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt differential with a chrome cover. Provenance on this car, which was sold new at Mystery Lake Motors in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada, includes the warranty card, Kansas City, Missouri, build sheet, Protect-O-Plate and original owner documents. It also features power steering and fresh engine air thanks to the ZL2 Cowl Induction hood. A beautiful tri-color blend is here, done with the classic white exterior, black SS stripes and unique 788-Code Red vinyl Stratobucket seat interior. This is equipped with the center console with Muncie chrome shifter knob, SS-center steering wheel, the AM radio with the optional tape player, in-dash electric clock, and driver’s side mirror remote. The Z15 also meant SS454 model identification, and this car features hood pins, chrome exhaust tips, quad headlamps, wheel well trim and Cowl Induction lettering. In keeping with its street-theme nature, this Chevelle features the premium 5-spoke SS road wheels, which wear F70 14 Firestone Wide Oval white-letter tires. We noted the extra costs here in USD and do not know what the Canadian currency conversion was at the time, but the truth is, any LS6 was expensive new and required a real commitment to own. This one is a beautiful example of what RPO Z15 was all about.
