The car that started it all was a 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe—Berman’s first special, collector-type vehicle and one rightly coveted by legions of enthusiasts. A great choice, the Corvette was purchased new by Berman and was certainly worthy of its elite status, advertised by Chevrolet as “The American Exotic.” Packing a 350/245 HP V-8 with Tuned-Port Injection, Berman’s new ‘Vette was capable of meeting and exceeding the performance credentials of such vaunted European competitors of the era as Porsche’s 911, 944 Turbo and 928, and Ferrari’s 308. Several Corvet tes followed, mostly purchased new and driven and enjoyed sparingly, with limited mileage. The mighty “King of the Hill” Corvet te ZR1 was a par ticular focus of Berman’s at tention, with examples from the 1990 to 1992 model years and one from 1994. Berman’s 1990 ZR1 has just 27 miles of use at the time of listing and has enjoyed Berman’s ownership since 1996. Meanwhile, his 1991 ZR1 has been owned by him from new and has traveled fewer than 4,063 miles. A 30-year member of his local Corvette club and a lifetime member of the Corvette Museum since it opened in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1994, Berman’s allegiance to America’s Sports Car is unquestioned. Interestingly, rather than focusing on the first- or second-generation Corvette models, Berman particularly appreciates the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh Corvette generations for their outstanding engineering, appearance and performance in road trim, and, of course, their brilliant successes on the international racing stage. While most of Berman’s vehicles have low mileage, with some of them offered for sale with super-low odometer readings, he has nonetheless exercised the vehicles in his collection along the beautifully winding roads surrounding his home in Pennsylvania’s Chester and Delaware Counties, near Philadelphia. A particularly special experience for Berman was logged in 2002, when one of his ZR1 Corvet tes was selected to be among the 50-car group celebrating the Corvette’s historic golden anniversary on an epic Corvette Motorama tour organized by the National Corvette Museum. Commemorating the half-century of Corvette production, each participating Corvette was issued a special license plate with its specific model year from the state of Kentucky for use on the tour. Starting off from the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, the group set off for Flint, Michigan, where the first Corvettes were assembled, before heading to St. Louis, Missouri, the site of Corvette production from 1954 to June 1981, and then returning to Bowling Green. 1 9 8 7 Che vrole t Corv e t t e Coup e
