His father was a design engineer for Ford Motor Company, and Todhunter was enamored by his father’s talent and ingenuity—something he had the occasional opportunity to witness firsthand. Todhunter said he remembers watching prototypes for auto parts being crafted at the kitchen table using odds and ends gathered from around the house, and he added that sometimes, he was even allowed to jump in to help. As Todhunter grew and became more familiar with engines and all of their endless inner workings, there came a point when he was able to look under the hood of a new Ford and recognize the elements of his father’s engineering that had successfully made their way from the family table, through Detroit and into the engine bay before him. Unknowingly, Todhunter absorbed these key moments from his early childhood, and they became the seeds that eventually grew into his full-blown passion for collecting. Todhunter’s first car was a 1970 Ford Torino, purchased with the help of his father, but it didn’t take long for his youthful heart to start pounding for Mopar. Todhunter maintains that his divergent love wasn’t merely an act of teenage defiance or rebellion against Ford in particular, but rather, the individuality and unique nature of the era’s Mopar machines just grabbed him, and as a collector, it was their resulting rarity that spoke to him most. Throughout his years spent seeking out, acquiring and rotating through various examples, Todhunter has owned some of the rarest and most sought-after Mopars ever built, and in many ways, his discerning eye paved the way for the development of certain standards that many now expect from a thoroughbred collector car.
